The Night Christopher the Crocodile Went Sleepwalking

One night Christopher the crocodile got out of bed,

He tripped on his slippers and bashed his head !

"Who put that tree there ?, the crocodile said,

As his nose came up all sore and red.....

He'd only been walking by the side of the waterhole,

When in a sleepy slumber, into the water he did roll !

He really knew how to make a SPLASH!

As into the bushes, he did CRASH !

His nose hurt, he was full of dirt,

A button popped off his stripy nightshirt!

The crocodile's head was in a spin,

There were stars before his eyes and he made a terrible din !

"OUCH !", the croc cried out in pain,

Trying his hardest to get back up again !

The crocodile's tears rolled down his face,

He was cross - eyed and his hair was all out of place !

The hippopotamus, hearing all the fuss,

Called to his friend, the rhinocerous.....

"Fetch some ointment to rub on his nose !

Put on a bandage - it will get better, I suppose !"

Christopher the crocodile was led back to bed,

Perhaps I'll take my teddy with me, he said.

The hippopotamus tucked him up cosy and warm....

Beneath the sheets, at last, he was rosy and calm.

His snores soon shook the leaves off the trees,

Dreaming of coconuts falling off in the breeze !
