The Hungry Puppy Dog Who Couldn't Find His Bone

There was once a hungry puppy dog, who couldn't find his bone. He spent ages digging in holes and couldn't even get one on loan. He looked under the bed and in every cupboard, too ... he even looked in the wardrobe - and in every one of the shoes. But still no bone, not even one, he simply couldn't find where his bone had gone. So the puppy dog decided to search in the garden too ... first he checked the flowers and underneath the tree - he even asked the ladybird, if he knew where his bone might be. The ladybird asked the spider - who crawled right out of his web to see, but he didn't have much luck either, so he went to ask the bee. The bee started buzzing around looking for his bone - but it wasn't in the shed and it wasn't either in the flowerbed. The hungry dog looked so much, he ended up on his head. The bee flew up to the dragonfly, who was catching flies on a lillypad, but he said that he hadn't seen it either, which made the puppy dog sad. Poor puppy dog - his belly rumbled and his hopes crumbled. Perhaps he had buried it in one of his garden holes - but he couldn't remember where he'd been digging and it wasn't underneath his doggy bowl. Perhaps it was stole. The puppy dog looked this way and that. He checked by the fireplace, which awoke the sleeping cat. He even checked by the windowsill and underneath one of his hats. Perhaps it had been sucked up in the vacuum cleaner, where the maid had been cleaning the mats. But still no bone - not even one - and very soon dinnertime would be done. The hungry puppy dog woofed loudly a lot, to call to the neighbourhood puppies and to see if they knew or not. He even checked the flowerpot. Disconcerted, he went back to his bed on the kitchen floor, and sat down by the sofa by the side of the door. Suddenly he felt something lumpy ... he looked underneath the pillow to see what was so bumpy. Of course, you guessed it, there sitting quite still, was his bone in between the blankets of his bed, beneath the windowsill. At last the hungry puppy had a tasty bone for tea, though he had to share it with an even hungrier flea.
