The hungry housefly zoomed to the zoo,
He had a free Sunday, didn’t know what to do…
So off he headed down the M62,
And very soon landed on the back of a gnu !
He paid for a ticket at the parking meter,
Then flew off and meet a lion and a cheetah…
The housefly rested on the foot of an elephant,
Breathless from his journey, on a giraffe, he did pant !
Then, he landed on a zebra’s ear,
Skidded down his leg, in first gear !
The housefly tucked into an apple core,
Belonging to the monkey, in the cage next – door…
A hungry housefly, he did say,
Needs a picnic, every day…
On a camel’s hump, he did sway,
On a jam and cream scone, he was lay !
Onto an ice-lolly, the housefly sucked,
He ate every cake the zoo-keeper cooked !
Flapping his wings, ate a fish with the flamingoes,
Perched on the snout of an ant-eater’s nose…
In the pool, he swam a bit with the seals,
Slipped on their ball, he fell on his heels !
A little bit drunk, with a hair of the dog,
He bounced on a jelly and began to leapfrog !
With the friendly dolphins, he did play,
Guzzling water, he loved every May !
He paused on a cowpat, at the side of the lake,
Narrowly dodging the jaws of a snake…
The hungry housefly took another bite,
He really did have a croc’s appetite !
Quickly, he put on a pound or two,
So didn’t quite make it out of the zoo…
Although he flapped with all his might,
He couldn’t take off into flight that night….
Instead of jetting off into the skies,
At the zoo, he partied with the fireflies…
Dancing by the light of the Moon,
The baboon cried out, “Come back soon !”
