All the hungry housefly wanted to be,

Was a soldier marching in the infantry…

So off he trotted to the army base,

At 100 mph was quite a race…

He got some boots, a pair of size ten,

Tried them on, then span off again….

He polished them hard, with all of his might,

Flapped his wings and held on quite tight….

His first job of the day was to shine away,

He painted the fence and made the gate sway…

He stood to attention in line with the men,

Straight upright, then tidied the den….

He folded the clothes and piled them straight, (It still was only half past eight)….

The hungry housefly span around,

Cleaned the ceiling and swept the ground…

Mopped the galley and cooked the tea,

Meanwhile, munching on a biscuit or three…

He flapped his wings and polished his things,

A dozen medals to see what reflection it brings…

The hungriest housefly’s happiest time,

Was spent in the army, singing his housefly rhyme…
