The hungry caterpillar hadn't eaten for a week. His belly rumbled and he felt like a freak. He went to the greenhouse to sneak a peek - to see what tasty morsels that he could eat as a treat. After the hungry caterpillar had been eating for an hour, the stem bended, a leaf fell off and there was no petals on any of the flowers. All he knew was that he'd eaten a lot - more petals than any of the flowers had got. As the hungry caterpillar started to grow and grow, he found he'd started walking really rather slow. He'd eaten an apple, two grapes and three pears - and now he was so large, that he could hardly get off the chair and walk upstairs. The hungry caterpillar had such a hungry appetite, he opened his mouth and tried to take a bite. Wow ! He got a fright that night, as he munched with all his might. The hungry caterpillar made the leaves wobble as he tried to eat as many greenfly off the radishes as he could possibly gobble. Before long, the caterpillar was having so much fun munching in the sun - that one of the leaves on the flowers had gone, so he started to munch on a plum. After a while, of course, the caterpillar fell right through. Well, that's what happens when hungry caterpillars chomp as caterpillars do. Perhaps, it was a rain shower, or being hit by a lawnmower, the caterpillar wasn't sure exactly what - had caused him to fall off his perch on the plant and land right in the middle of the flowerpot. No wonder he was such a grump as he landed in the grass with an incredible "BUMP !". The gardener wasn't at all pleased either, as he came to see what was causing all this mither. To stop the gardener feeling so stunned, the hungry caterpillar offered him a refund. The gardener declined, he said it would do, if the hungry caterpillar helped him mow the lawn, too. So the hungry caterpillar got stuck right in, he pruned the roses and put rubbish in the bin. He scoffed the flowers that needed to be trimmed and weeded the garden where the weeds needed to be thinned. The hungry caterpillar then watered the plants - he even watered the gardener's pants. Hoping that the plants would soon grow back, the hungry caterpillar put a few seeds in the soil from his gardener's sack. He made a hole with his garden rake. The hungry caterpillar was still chomping cabbages when the gardener came back to his shack for a break.
