The Hungry Bird Who Ate Too Many Worms

There was once a hungry worm who hadn't found a bite to eat for weeks. His belly rumbled every time he opened his beak and when he was getting thinner by the minute, every week. He twittered about the bird table ... but still unable to find no breadcrumbs whatsoever. It must have been the kind of weather. Every time that there was rain, a worm popped up to say "hello !", before popping back down below again - too quick for the hungry bird to catch. If there were nuts on the bird table, the hungry bird was on the chimney pot - if there were crumbs on the road, he almost got run over by a car trying to peck them up. Once, the hungry bird was chased by a cat and almost got eaten up himself. Soon the bird could hardly sing a note - every time he opened his beak, he had a sore throat. So the hungry bird went to find a new home - he didn't much care for a nice cosy nest - 'cos the twigs weren't really a good place to rest. He tried an old teapot - his wings stuck in the spout ... so he went to a bakers - a better home, without a doubt. There were cakes and gateaux and all the bread he could eat ... the puddings and pies were a real tasty treat. But it wasn't long before the last scone was all gone. He was hungry once more - bot even a bun ! So the hungry bird made a home in the garden shed - a good place to rest his peckety head. Here there were cockroaches and ants - for dinner and tea - (and if he could catch them) a nice, tasty flea. But the hungry worm had such a big appetite that he soon ate one too many worm ... and the bird like the worm started to squirm. The hungry bird ate a few more, they fell from his beak right onto the floor. The hungry bird found room for one more - it was the longest worm in the garden, and stretched from the hall to the door. The worm was so long that he could use it as a scarf or a tie. And the worm just kept on wriggling. Soon the whole garden was wriggling, too, just 'cos the bird had eaten a worm or few. The grass wriggled and the trees giggled as well - the snail wriggled out of his higgledy - piggledy shell. The flowers wiggled so much, they grew and grew ... because of th wiggledy worm and the wiggledy bird too !
