The hundred metre dash to the water each day
Almost took Turnip's breath away
He started early......about half past three
When he set off jogging energetically
He wore his swimming trunks which looked rather smart
And waited for the tide to depart
Ready steady go.......off he flew
The Sun shone and the wind blew
High above the seagulls were looking down
Eating the fish and chips they'd stolen in town
The waves crashed against the beach,
His run seemed endless and the sea out of reach
He was almost hit on the head by a beach ball
Before long, the rain started to fall
Turnip almost slipped on seaweed and into a rockpool
They didn't teach anything about THAT in school !
But he kept on going....strong and fast
Running as fast as a rocket blast !
No wonder he won the championship...
As into the water's edge he did slip !
