The Arctic Polar Bear

Life is tough as an arctic polar bear, especially when the nights are drawing in and the weather becomes colder. Overhead, the North Star shines bright and slowly the ice starts to melt. It's much easier then to cut a hole to the blue waters below and fish (if you don't mind the noise from all the walruses that is). The arctic polar bear was so cold that he thought his toes would freeze - he was jumping up and down on the spot to get warm when suddenly the ice broke and he slipped, splashing into the chilly waters below. The penguins were most amused and rolled off their rocks that they had been sitting on at the side of the sea. They landed in the snow in fits of laughter. Luckily a kindly sealion was swimming past and he helped him back out but even his whiskers were tickled and his nose sniffed at the sight of the big, fat polar bear bending over like a beached whale, eclipsing the sun. It took ages for the polar bear to warm up again. His teeth chattered and he shivered so much he almost thought that he could hear his bones rattle inside. His fur, which stuck to him, dripped a soggy, wet patch onto the ice and the polar bear could almost feel a sneeze coming on from the snowflakes that tickled his snout. Luckily, as well as his salmon paste sandwiches in his fishing bag, he had a woolly scarf that he wrapped around his neck - and a pair of gloves that just about fit his furry paws. He hoped all this splashing hadn't scared away the fish - he was hungry (as polar bears often are) and his tummy rumbled as he hadn't had any breakfast. He dangled a wriggly maggot onto the end of his fishing rod and caught a fish !
