Puff The Magic Dragon Who Couldn't Puff

The dragon who lost his puff was feeling rather down - hearted. Although he tried very hard to be a world class singer, he never ever really got started. He huffed and he puffed but nothing came out - except a small cloud of smoke and a rather out of tune shout. He took a deep breath in, remembering all the flames he used to breath out in his younger days before the damp Winter weather came ... nothing much happened. He even tried to light a match ... it sparked, but quickly fizzled out. His tongue smouldered as he tried to breathe fire and spat but only a few cinders came out ... . He had lots of things he wanted to light ... a bonfire, the gas flame in the kitchen and an odd candle or two. But it was hopeless, the dragon had simply lost all his puff. Although he had ambitions to be one of the world's greatest flame throwers, all that came from his nose was snuff. He didn't even have enough puff to sing his favourite song - 'Puff the Magic Dragon'. His wheeze was asthamatic and he went blue in the face as he tried to hit the high and low notes of his favourite song, "Amazing Grace". He was so busy huffing and puffing that he collapsed, completely clapped out, in a heap on the floor. When he tried to sing a song, he burned a hole in the door. He decided to call on one of his friends, Saint George ... but Saint George only tried to sleigh the dragon and he didn't come up with many good ideas to solve the problem anyway. The dragon couldn't understand why Saint George was so upset ... perhaps it was that when the dragon started huffing and puffing, Saint George ended up quite wet. Next the dragon tried calling on an old flame - they'd been for a candlelit dinner one time ... but this wasn't much use, either - no wonder, the dragon remembered she'd spilt over the wine ! All the dragon wanted, was to set up fireworks with a spark. But when the dragon tried to light a candle, he remained hopelessly in the dark. Perhaps he was out of practise, or his voice was hopelessly hoarse ... all the dragon really wanted, was to get back his voice and puff, of course.
