Harry the Hippo's Toothache

Harry the hippo's tooth ached.....

It must have been the steak pie he'd baked...

That made one of his molars break !

He was just having a tasty lunch ....

When suddenly, he heard a crunch !

As he chewed with all his might...

Out popped something shiny and quite white.....

From maybe the left side, but it could have been the right !

The gap in his teeth looked really a sight !

Harry the hippo's patience was wearing thin....

He howled so much, his neighbours needed gin !

His toothy grin made his head spin....

He spat everything out that he put in !

Ouch ! Harry cried out in pain...

Taking another bite, it started again...

Just then his friend came swimming by,

Harry asked if she had any ideas that he might try ?

Carol the crocodile had a wonderful smile.....

Everyone in the waterhole thought she floated with style

She'd never seen Harry look so distraught...

When he frowned like that, his face looked awfully fraught !

In fact, the spare tooth, she had caught...

No wonder her advice, Harry sought !

"Try a pill to stop you feeling ill", she said,

"Or try running down a hill, instead !"

So Harry rolled down to the water place....

And only landed upon his face !

By now, he was getting really mad...

And his toothache was still just as bad !

Was that the only idea she had ?

"I've an idea", said the snake, "Though it may sound crazy, it's something, pull your tooth with a piece of string !"

The monkey brought a jungle creeper...

And after that the hippo was a much better sleeper !

They tied the creeper to a tree....

Pulled and suddenly the broken tooth was free !

What a relief ! It was beyond belief.....

At last an end to his troublesome grief !
