Harry the Hippo's Day at the Waterhole

Harry the hippopotamus caused quite a fuss one day,

When he came down to the waterhole to play....

Caked in mud, he looked like Christmas pud,

He knew a dip in the water would do him good !

At first, Harry dipped in his big toe....

Then started to splash about and in he did go....

Till only his ears at all did show

Even the crocodile was scared....

But he came up say hello - yes, he actually dared !

Life by the waterhole plodded on....

The lions basked in the Midday sun....

The hippo smiled a toothy grin at everyone...

Which made the chimpanzees turn and run !

As the zebra handed the hippo a towel,

Rubbing his back, he started to howl !

"Ouch ! You've stomped on my long tail !"

(No wonder the zebra started to wail !)

The orangutan, who was just passing by,

Brought a bandage and a pill for him to try....

The hyenas laughed in sheer delight...

Thinking a zebra with a bent tail looked quite a sight !

As night drew in, they began to tuck in...

The Sun set and the light grew dim...

Even the fireflies got a surprise...

Such a dazzingly clean hippo - was a sight for sore eyes !

When eveything had settled down,

Together, everyone joined in a picnic and head off into town !
